Cleansing: Day 1

Cleansing time is here, and boy could it not have arrived soon enough! The photo below sums up how we're feeling around here... bring on the cleanse! Today was Day 1 of 10.

THE PARTY IS OVER, It's cleansing time!
Here at the shop, we are getting into the full cleansing swing of things.  We started the day with a run to PCC, and got our menu plan into place.  As vegetables are the staple of a good cleanse, we stocked up on fresh, organic and colorful veggies.  Our shopping list included carrots, beets, apples, ginger and leafy greens for juicing (we have a juicer in our staff kitchen!).  Vegetables for future lunches include cabbage, onions, romaine, kale, parsley, cilantro and garlic.  We loaded up on almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds and carrots with hummus to snack us through the day.  Tiny's Organic were generous enough to donate two huge boxes of organic Gala apples to our cleanse, so we will be snacking on those with raw nut butters throughout the day.

Vegetables are the staple of a good cleanse!
Tierney whipped us up a batch of Spicy Lemonade from the Master Cleanse.  A combination of fresh squeezed lemons, cayenne and maple syrup, this cleansing beverage helps break down mucus congestion in the body. Between warmed Spicy Lemonade and 2 pots of Namaste Tea, we have kept warmed and cleansed throughout this rainy, dreary day.

Kimberley, our store manager extraordinaire, was on lunch duty today.  We are taking turns preparing lunches during the cleanse.  This makes the new diet easier, provides support, and lightens the load of constantly having to cook for oneself.

Kimberley's Kale Salad
In a bowl combine:
3 cups each kale and red cabbage, finely chopped
2 large carrots, thinly sliced/julienned
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
2 Tb toasted sesame seeds
2 Tb pumpkin seeds
2 Tb hemp seeds

Dressing:
In a small mason jar, combine:
2 Tb unrefined olive oil
1 Tb flax oil
2 Tb dijon mustard
2 tsp apple cider vinegar
coarse salt and pepper to taste

Shake vigorously and drizzle over greens and coat evenly.

Tonight's Dinner Plans:
