Coming down with a case of the Holiday Grouchies? Stressed out, burnt out, low energy, trouble sleeping… if this sounds like you, then welcome to Reason #2 to Cleanse: The Adrenals!
The adrenals adorn the kidneys, sitting atop them like little hats. Their biggest claim to physiological fame is the production and secretion of adrenaline and cortisol, aka stress hormones. The adrenals control the body’s response to stress. So many people today live under constant and unrelenting stress. Top these excess demands with the added stress and pressure of the holidays, and oftentimes the adrenals simply can’t keep up. Sugar, starchy foods, alcohol and caffeine (all Holiday staples of course) stimulate and ultimately deplete adrenal function. Alcohol + Christmas cookies + cup of coffee is a recipe for taxed adrenals. Thanks to the holidays, adrenal fatigue often arrives just in time to ring in the New Year. Fatigue, low energy levels, increased stress and anxiety, and sleeplessness all arrive too. Your adrenals could use a break.

Join The Herbalist for a New Year’s Cleanse, beginning January 2nd!
Give your adrenals a Fresh Start for 2012!
During our 10-day cleanse we will be eliminating all foods that stimulate and tax the adrenal glands, including sugar, starchy foods, alcohol, caffeine and chocolate. While giving them this much-deserved break, we will also be taking adaptogenic herbal remedies that restore and revitalize adrenal function. We will be eating mineral-rich foods that feed the adrenals and support endocrine function. After a cleanse, people commonly experience more energy, more vitality, better sleep and improved tolerance to stress due to adrenal restoration.
Simple daily practices to decrease Holiday adrenal damage include:

| Adapt to Life this holiday season with Adapt to Life formula. |
- Take 3-5 droppersful twice daily of an herbal adrenal adaptogen formula. Choose between The Herbalist’s Adapt to Life or Rasayana formulas. Both nourish and restore health to the adrenal glands.
- Exercise daily. Even 15 minutes of walking does wonders for decreasing stress and anxiety and promoting balanced adrenal health.
- Stick to one cup of coffee each day. Caffeine is commonly called upon this time of year to stimulate and get us through the stress and fatigue of the holidays... but we pay for it later. One cup a day won’t overly tax the adrenals.
- Relax! Take at least 15 minutes daily to relax - meditation, reading, a warm bath, gentle walk, listening to music, yoga. When you are truly relaxed, it frees the adrenal glands from combating stress and lowers cortisol and adrenaline levels. This has huge long term effects – lowered blood pressure, better heart health, improved digestion, decreased depression and anxiety, improved immunity.
- Breathe deeply. Nothing relaxes as wholely and deeply as a few full belly rejuvenating breaths. This can be done in the car, at your desk, lying in bed. It is simple, easy and hugely effective for managing stress and energy levels.
